Thane – Upcoming Infrastructure That Will Change The Face Of Thane
Thane, a rapidly growing metropolitan city, is one of the major cities of Maharashtra. Multiple mega infrastructure projects, equivalent to about fifty thousand crores, have already contributed to the city’s substantial real estate growth.
In addition, the rapid development and continuous improvement in the infrastructure also boost the city’s livability quotient. The upcoming infrastructure projects are focused on making the commute easier and upgrading the pre-existing infrastructure to promote better living space and transportation.
Following are some of the game-changing projects that will push Thane to the next level in the coming years.
Thane – Wadala metro line 4
This metro line 4 will operate between Kasarvadavali at Ghodbunder Road, Thane, to Wadala in Mumbai.
Major highlights of the project:
- It will become a major connectivity medium between the two major cities Mumbai and Thane.
- It will consist of 32 stations covering a vast length of 32.32 km.
- It shall significantly reduce the current travel time to anywhere between 50% and 75%.

Mumbai metro line 4A & 5
Metro line 4A will be an extension of metro line 4.
Major highlights of the project:
- It, – Line 4A, will start from Kasarvadavali to the Gaimukh area.
- The metro line 5 will connect Thane to Bhiwandi and Kalyan.
- It will be a fully elevated metro line with a corridor length of about 24.9 Km.

Thane – Borivali underground tunnel
The Thane-Borivali underground tunnel is a project by MSRDC that will connect Thane & Borivali.
Major highlights of the project:
- It will be a 21-km underground tunnel navigating through the majestic Sanjay Gandhi national park.
- It will significantly reduce the travel time from 2 hours to as short as 15 minutes.
Thane – Navi Mumbai – Mumbai waterways
The Thane – Navi Mumbai – Mumbai waterways is an Rs. 717 crore waterway project that will connect Thane-Navi Mumbai-Mumbai.
Major highlights of the project:
- The waterway will connect Thane with the entire MMR region from Vasai, Kalyan, Mumbai to Navi Mumbai.
- It will reduce the commuting time from Thane to Mumbai and Navi Mumbai.
Kopri bridge widening Mumbai – Thane
It is a bridge renovation project that aims to ease traffic congestion between Mumbai and Thane.
Major highlights of the project:
- Kopri bridge is an existing bridge with four lanes, which will be renovated and expanded into a total of 8 for ease of traffic.
- It will connect Mumbai and Thane on the eastern express highway.
Thane – Ghodbunder elevated corridor
This project will be a 4.4 KM elevated corridor connecting Thane, from Gaimukh to the western express highway, near Fountain hotel.
Major highlights of the project:
- It will connect the major highways NH3 & Western Express Highway(NH8), easing the traffic congestion between Thane & WEH.
Coastal Road Project
The Thane municipal corporation (TMC) has cleared a 13 KM long coastal road project, which will be an elevated corridor.
Major highlights of the project:
- The roads will be 40 meters wide, with around 40% passing through the CRZ zone, minimizing the impact on the environment.
Apart from these major projects, some new flyovers are coming up to improve transportation and reduce traffic. These three new flyovers will work as excellent alternative routes between Mumbai & Thane.
